Getting your confidence up: How to use the professional standards policy to develop your professionalism

As a W. P. Carey student, you will be able to participate in a comprehensive career management program and have the opportunity to engage with alumni and employers in multiple ways. To optimize these opportunities, both on and off campus, we have set Career Management & Employer Engagement Policies and Professional Standards to guide you with a set of expectations that can help you feel confident in your interactions.

The policies and professional standards were developed to help you think about how you get intentional and ready for a fruitful career.  These policies are based on employer expectations and are supported by years of recruiting experience and feedback.  They will prepare you to enter the employment market confidently, competitively, and with a high degree of professionalism.

Professionalism goes a long way towards letting employers know you have the maturity, responsibility and courtesy to engage professionally within their organization, conveying that you are someone who has the capability to  succeed in their company.  By meeting the commitments and expectations listed in the W. P. Carey School of Business Career Management & Employer Engagement Policies and Professional Standards, you’ll be able to make a strong impression and model the characteristics employers are seeking.

Please familiarize or reacquaint yourself with these commitments to professionalism and incorporate them into your interactions with one another, our staff, employers, alumni, and within the Handshake platform. If you have any questions on how to fulfill these commitments and expectations, consider reaching out to a career coach to discuss. Schedule that conversation with your coach via Handshake.
