Fall on-campus recruitment is over and you don’t have a job? Here’s what’s next!

If you did not secure a job or internship during on-campus recruitment, you may be concerned regarding your job or internship prospects. Understanding the difference between the three job search channels available to business students, and how to leverage them, is vital to your success and ability to move forward. These job search channels include:

  1. On-campus recruitment (OCR)
  2. Networked job search
  3. Just-in-time job search

The networked job search is exactly what it sounds like: networking. In the networked job search, employers lean on their employees to refer candidates for vacant positions. In order to be successful in this job channel, you must build your network and advocacy well in advance of the job opportunity. Then, once the position opens, you are the first candidate that they consider for the position.

The just-in-time job search features positions that need to be filled as soon as possible. These positions are posted to job boards like LinkedIn and Indeed. In this channel, you will be most successful by finding opportunities that fit your wants, needs, and availability, and compete by taking the time to strategically develop your narrative and resume for each job posting
