Is your Digital Footprint Leading Prospects in the Right Direction?

Ever since you first accessed the internet, a digital record of data has been linking you to your online interactions. This “documentation” is known as a digital footprint. It is your job to sort out which traceables help or harm your business reputation. More than 75% of employers use search engines such as Google to research their candidates prior to hiring. As a business student, it is important that you consider this practice as you refine your personal brand.

Whatever you can find about yourself online, potential employers and future clients have easy access to as well.  A preliminary assessment for you to review your imprint is to conduct a simple Google search of your own name. What comes up in that search may include direct links to job experiences, affiliations, images, and social media accounts.

Consider what supports or detracts from your desired personal brand. Clean up and/or curate the online presence that you want your network to see. Begin building the conscientious habit of creating a positive and professional digital footprint now–your future self will thank you!
