Build Your Brand By Conveying Genuine Interest
I highly advise against the “spray-and-pray” approach to job searching because it often undermines your personal brand. Employers value applicants who show a clear understanding of the company’s goals and culture. Do the research and make sure that shows in each application.
A generic application doesn’t convey your genuine interest or how you align with the company’s values, which are critical aspects in today’s job market. Instead, focus on crafting tailored applications that reflect your understanding of and enthusiasm for the specific role and company. This not only strengthens your personal brand but also increases the likelihood of making a meaningful connection with potential employers. The spray-and-pray approach also shows a lack of effort when looking for a career is a full-time job.
Remember, every application is an opportunity to showcase your brand; make it count by being thoughtful and selective. Take the time and put your best foot forward; you will set yourself apart and find that you will have more success this way.

Research Each Company and Personalize Applications
There’s nothing more annoying to employers than ‘spray and pray’ job applications.
People want to hire individuals who bring value to their organization and who want to be there. Nothing signals that people don’t care about the culture and success of a business more than just sending a resume blindly.
If you want to cut through the noise and land the job, then research the company, understand what your value is to that company, and why you would be a good fit. Communicate that to the hiring manager, and I guarantee that approach will double, if not 10x, your outcome.

Combine Online Applications with Networking
As an ASU student, you have refined your ability to learn new things, work hard, and build strong relationships. While we highly encourage you to craft a well-written resume and apply to positions of interest online, please do not lose your focus on networking, reaching out to individuals you admire, and making yourself visible to those with whom you would like to work. A combination of applying online and a proactive outbound networking routine will increase your options and, hopefully, land you the position you’re most interested in and qualified for.

Leverage LinkedIn Premium
With the job market being incredibly tough at the moment, I highly recommend getting LinkedIn Premium and reaching out to recruiters from respective job posts.
