As a Data Scientist at Eastman, you will provide actionable insights using advanced analytics to help people make better and faster decisions. Data scientists work in a centralized department organized into three groups: Applied Statistics, AI/Machine Learning Technology, and Operations Research. Internships for Summer 2022 are available in each of the three groups.
The mission of Data Science is to enable Eastman to out-think and out-perform the competition by working with business leaders to apply analytics to the right problems at the right time with the right data. As an intern you will leverage your natural curiosity; understanding of Eastman’s businesses, products, and processes; formal analytical capabilities; and skills in utilizing structured and unstructured data sources to provide insights to key decision makers across the company. A typical client engagement could include applications of data mining, design of experiments, forecasting, multivariate analysis, optimization modeling, predictive modeling, simulation, statistical process control, or text analytics, depending on the team assignment.
An intern will typically work as part of one or more project teams, contributing to active analytics projects in ways that match their skills and capabilities. An intern may also work on solo projects, either for clients or for enhancing group capability, depending on their interest in solo work and their ability to carry it out.
A typical internship is 12 weeks in duration during the summer months, but some adjustment may be possible based on academic schedules. Internships at Eastman are positions with pay and benefits.
In this role you will:
- Work collaboratively with members of the Data Science organization to contribute to active projects
- Learn about Eastman’s data systems and improve your productivity in using them throughout your tenure
- Learn about the analytics tools used within Data Science and improve your productivity in using them throughout your tenure
- Interact with others on your assigned team and the larger Data Science organization to bring unique insights and ideas from your education and prior experience
Currently pursuing an M.S. or Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as Business Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Operations Research
