The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State’s energy future. The NYISO’s Capacity Market Design team invites applications for a full-time Market Design Specialist interested in evolving the NYISO’s Capacity Market. The NYISO’s Capacity Market is essential to ensure that New York can attract and retain the necessary resources to meet peak electricity demands.
The Market Design Specialist will act as the technical expert in the design, modification, and implementation of market rules for NYISO’s Capacity Market. Working in concert with internal and external stakeholders, regulators and policy makers, they will facilitate and support the research and design of new market functionality and develop enhancements to existing functionality by leading collaborative processes; participate in processes to develop new business processes, market rules, and tariff changes; present proposals for new and evolving market designs and rules to NYISO stakeholders; act as a primary interface between market participants and internal NYISO stakeholders; and provide market design support to technical and project teams in the implementation of changes to NYISO Capacity Markets.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics or other related technical field required.
- Must have demonstrated understanding of power industry and/or commodity markets; business experience in electric power systems or wholesale electric markets desired; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Three years NYISO experience or five years of energy industry or professional experience including ISO-specific experience preferred
