We know that too many students think that the work of finding a job out of business school is simply about writing resumes and hoping to land interviews. We also know that the process can be overwhelming and feel like a lot is out of your control. At W. P. Carey, you are lucky enough to have career courses and a number of resources that you can use to help you better understand how to navigate the lifelong skill set of managing your career — and landing the next job! The model below mirrors a product development process and is exactly how we recommend you approach the job search.
STRATEGY: At this phase, you will do the work to better understand your skills, interests and what you want to explore as your next move.
MARKET RESEARCH: At this phase, you are digging deeper on a smaller set of industries, functions and roles to confirm your interest and further narrow your goals.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT: This is when you start getting out networking and talking with people to explore the roles you are interested in, and to have people know who you are and what you can bring to their organizations.
OPERATIONS: This is the final stage and is when you are launching into officially looking for a role, with applications, resumes, cover letters, and interviews all a part of it.
Schedule an appointment with your Career Coach to further talk about where you are in your process and how you can navigate to the next phase of your career management journey here at business school.
