Applied Scientist Intern, Amazon AGI
Description
We are part of Amazon’s Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) division. Our organization’s mission is to provide conversational, visual, and proactive mechanisms to delight customers, increase customer engagement, reduce defects, and enable natural interactions across Amazon touch points (e.g., Alexa, Stores, Mobile). As science team, we are responsible for pushing the boundaries and building cutting-edge scalable AI solutions (e.g. Large Language Model) that offer timely and personalized recommendations based on customers interest and needs, with appropriate visual representations and responses, to create intelligent and magical experiences serving millions of customers across the globe.
We are looking for a passionate, talented, and resourceful interns in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Recommender Systems and/or Information Retrieval, and Reinforcement Learning to invent and build scalable solutions for a state-of-the-art context-aware speech assistant. A successful candidate will have strong machine learning background and a desire to push the envelope in one or more of the above areas. The ideal candidate would also enjoy operating in dynamic environments, be self-motivated to take on challenging problems to deliver big customer impact, moving fast to ship solutions and then iterating on user feedback and interactions.
Key job responsibilities
As an applied scientist intern, you will collaborate with your mentors to tackle complex customer problems, by leveraging cutting edge AI technologies. You will develop novel algorithms and modeling techniques to reduce friction and enable natural and contextual proactive experiences for customers. You will leverage Amazon’s heterogeneous data sources and large-scale computing resources to accelerate advances in spoken language understanding and users’ behavioral understanding. We highly support innovative intern projects to be published or patented. Your work will also have a chance to directly impact our customers in the form of products and services
Basic Qualifications
- Enrolled in a PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics or related fields
- Experience in any programming language such as Python, Java, C++, or similar scripting and programming languages
- Experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Recommender Systems and/or Information Retrieval, and Reinforcement Learning
Preferred Qualifications:
- Publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Experience with LLM (Large Language Models) and LLM powered agent system
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Being able to iterate fast in a dynamic and ambiguous environment
