The art of dressing for business

What does it mean to have Executive Presence, and what does this mean to you? In the business world, it is the ability to inspire confidence among peers and leaders that you are capable, reliable, and have the potential for greatness. How do you convey executive presence and get noticed? 

The simplest way to display executive presence is the presentation of yourself wearing professional attire – it provides a great positive first impression. If you have buy-in from the beginning, others will be open to learn more about who you are, what drives you, and where you are headed in your career journey. 

Depending on the area of your chosen career path, there are many different ways to dress. For example, a law firm would have a different expectation than a construction site.  In the business world, professional dress may also vary.  Most businesses do have dress codes aligned with their business; it is important to know your audience and dress accordingly.

If you do not know how to dress, do not be afraid to ask questions of the career team, and remember, being overdressed is better than being underdressed for the occasion. If in doubt, a professional suit is a safe bet for any career related event of meeting!
