Successful career management starts with identifying career goals

We often think we have to have the perfect linear career plan.  In reality, a career is more of a winding journey than a straight path. W. P. Carey students who identify their career objectives early on will be able to navigate that journey with more ease.

Successful career management starts with identifying career goals. Being open to everything can make it harder to research the options you are considering. On the flip side, being too narrow in your scope limits your ability to consider relevant opportunities that align with your interests. The goal is to strike a balance that allows you to become more informed and targeted, and to enter the market as a relevant candidate.

Three of the primary things to consider as you start developing your career goal(s) are industry, function, and role. You can utilize resources like the Business Functions Map and the me3® Career Quiz to help guide you through your decision making process.

Once you know your industry and function preferences, you can utilize the W. P. Carey Career Blueprint to help you further identify your core career interests. Part 2 of the Blueprint focuses on exploring different career pathways and how to do research to inform your decision making.

Schedule an appointment with your Career Coach to talk through your interests! Your Coach can help you explore your areas of interest and help you to set-up career goals that align with them.
