Recruitment Timelines: Are you prepared to access opportunities of interest?

Picture your favorite musical artist dropping a new amazing album. You anxiously await their social media post about upcoming tour dates and make a plan to buy tickets as soon as they go on sale. Now, think about your dream company or top 5. Are you applying for their internship or full time opportunities with the same anticipation and strategy in mind?

Unlike your favorite artist, recruitment timelines are rarely posted, but if you’re actively staying informed you’ll be less likely to miss dream opportunities. Recruitment timelines tend to differ depending on industry. For instance, if you’re interested in a technical, financial services, accountancy, or consulting company, they typically do a bulk of their full time recruiting efforts during the early fall semester and are wrapped up between the end of October and November. During the spring they might have a few more openings, however, it then becomes more competitive. Other industries like manufacturing and logistics mainly recruit throughout the spring. It is important to define your industry of interest in order to understand what recruitment timelines look like for you.

Another layer to this for full time job seekers to consider is cross offers. Don’t forget to consider how you might manage expectations should you have more than one offer. Consider scheduling an appointment with your Career Coach to discuss a plan of action.
